When I was 11 years old, I found a book in my school library that started my journey into the world of programming. I can't quite remember what it was called, something like "Make Your Own Computer Games", but it was all about writing games in BASIC. I was immediately hooked, and spent hours typing in code from the book and experimenting with it using an old Tandy Color Computer 3 that my family had.
Eventually I got to the point where I wanted to try making my own game from scratch, and "Dracula" was the result. Borrowing (er...stealing) ideas from the Nintendo game Castlevania 3 and throwing in some truly inscrutable choices (left door or right door? Who knows, too bad you don't have any indicators of which one is correct!), I created something that I thought was pretty cool at the time, and it set me down the path of eventually getting into development as a career.
I decided to resurrect it as a web based version and a fun little time capsule of my first "real" programming project. Have fun, and watch out for the gargoyle! (j/k, the original bug that's still in there ensures that you always defeat it)
